Contrary to the version of Greek mythology that many of us heard as children, Medusa is not the monster she was made out to be. In fact, she was a victim of sexual assault, cursed by her deity for a vow of celibacy that she herself did not break. She was then murdered by Perseus. Personally, I view the accurate story of Medusa as a tragic one but also inspiring in its own way. Especially if you’ve seen Garbati’s statue of Medusa holding Perseus’ severed head. Medusa stands defiant, having defeated one of the many men who sought to abuse and deceive her.
